I’m Ben. I’m an installer. I work for The Brothers That Just Do Gutters. I enjoy being able to make stuff myself, and how thankful the customers are when we do a good job for them. I’m Zeke Edwards. We love coming out and basically creating a solution for people. It’s just fun to be able to go out and work with your hands. You go home with a sense of accomplishment. It is an enjoyable business to be in. Knowing the customer is satisfied is great. We’re trying to change the gutter business and be really up there with customer service, making sure they’re happy at the end of the day. That’s what we strive for. All right, Zeke Edwards. I’m with The Brothers That Just Do Gutters in Tacoma. I had a client that just put an addition on their pool house and needed to extend the gutters out. I want to go ahead and show you what we did today. On the back of this house, they extended this outdoor kitchen right here. They put in a full kitchen and extended the roofline out, so they needed some gutters extended on it. They have this nice drainage that came down the center, and we were able to pipe right into it. We had one full seamless run on the back side here to complete it and pull it together. This is a 5-inch K-style gutter. Black has been a really popular color for us. A lot of people are liking putting the black on the house. I think it looks very clean and blends in nicely with the Northwest style we have here. Water backs up behind a packed trough and sits against the fascia board. That board is wood, it is painted on one side only, and it is the thing holding your gutter to the house.

Overflow does not fall clear of the house. It sheets down the wall, gets behind the siding at the laps, and stays there long enough to swell the board and lift the paint.

A downspout exists to carry water away from the house. When the trough above it is blocked, that water lands at the base of the wall instead, and saturated soil moves.

Look for staining down the fascia, water marks on the siding under a joint, soil that has been dug out below the roofline, and a downspout that stays dry during rain. Any one of those means water is leaving the system somewhere it should not.
