Gutters for Firgrove’s South Hill subdivisions

Firgrove is one of the oldest names on South Hill. The Firgrove School District opened its school in 1930, when the hill was still small farms and timber, and joined the Puyallup School District in 1946. Today the name covers the neighborhoods west of Meridian Avenue East and around 136th Street East, near Ballou Junior High and the new Firgrove Elementary that opened in 2019. Most of the houses are subdivision homes from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, with Douglas firs still standing along many streets.

That timing matters for gutters. Census estimates put the median home in ZIP 98373 at 1993, and 53 percent were built between 1980 and 2009, so a lot of original builder gutters are now 20 to 45 years old.
