Gutter work for Ruston cottages and the new homes at Point Ruston

Ruston is its own small town wedged between Point Defiance Park and Tacoma’s North End, with two kinds of roof. Up the hill are the original cottages from the early 1900s through the 1940s: steep pitches, short runs, wood fascia and gutters that are due for another round. Down on the water is Point Ruston, where new townhomes and condos have tight rooflines and shared drainage. Both sit downwind of the old-growth fir, cedar and hemlock in Point Defiance, so needles land in every trough, big-leaf maple sheds seed and leaf on the slope above Ruston Way, and the north sides hold moss through 37 to 40 inches of rain a year.

Most of our Ruston work is keeping that moving: hand cleaning, downspout flushing, moss out of the gutter, on a schedule if you want one. When a cottage system is finished, we form seamless aluminum on site to follow the roofline and size it for the rain. We repair pulled hangers and leaking corners, and we fit BroGuard fine mesh for homes right under the park’s canopy. Locally owned by Jamie and Zeke, who grew up here, and backed by a gutter-only franchise founded in 1999.

Why the Brothers

Why Ruston Homeowners Call the Brothers

01We know the old cottages

Steep roofs, short runs, wood fascia. We check what the gutter is hanging on before we hang anything new, and we quote repair when repair is the honest answer.

02Fine mesh next to the park

Point Defiance never stops dropping needles. BroGuard fine mesh keeps them out of the trough, which is more than a coarse screen ever managed.

03One contact for shared rooflines

Townhomes and condos at Point Ruston share drainage. We work with owners, associations and property managers so the whole run gets handled on one schedule.

04Solutionists, not salespeople

Locally owned by two people raised here and backed by a franchise that has done nothing but gutters since 1999. We look, we tell you the truth, and we quote that.

“At the start, Zeke was willing to work with my schedule, and they were prompt and on time. They worked with me, giving me options on the locations and directions of the downspouts, explaining the pros and cons of each option. Their pricing was very competitive… I highly recommend their services, even if it is not the lowest price. You won’t regret it.”

Ruston Gutter Questions, Answered

My Ruston cottage still has gutters from decades ago. Repair or replace?

Depends on what they are hanging on. If the fascia is solid and the runs are only leaking at a corner or sagging at a hanger, repair is the right call. If the metal is rusted through, the seams leak everywhere, or the gutter is too small for the roof, seamless replacement is cheaper than patching it again next year. We walk it with you and say which.

How much do the Point Defiance trees affect gutters in Ruston?

A lot. The park is old-growth fir, cedar and hemlock, and the prevailing wind carries needles across the whole town. Unlike maple leaves, needles do not come in one autumn drop, so a Ruston gutter refills all year. Twice-a-year cleaning is the minimum, and fine mesh is worth it for homes on the park side.

I live in a townhome at Point Ruston. Can you handle a shared roofline or work with our HOA?

Yes. Shared runs need to be cleaned and repaired as one system, because a clog on one unit backs up onto the next. We coordinate with the association or property manager, put the whole building on one schedule, and send one invoice. Individual owners can still call us directly for their own unit.

Why does moss keep coming back on my roof in Ruston?

Shade, moisture and time. The north side of a steep cottage roof stays damp for months, and the trees keep the sun off it. Cleaning the roof and the gutters together slows it down, and keeping the trough clear means the roof edge dries out instead of sitting in a wet dam of needles. Expect to treat it periodically, not once.

How often should gutters be cleaned in Ruston?

Twice a year for most homes: late autumn after the maple drops on the hill and again in spring after storm season. Cottages directly under the park’s canopy, or anywhere the downspout outlets pack with needles, do better with a third visit or BroGuard fine mesh so the trough stays clear between cleanings.
