Gutters for the homes around Star Lake

Star Lake sits on Kent’s west hill, just east of Interstate 5 and Military Road South, an old army road from the 1850s that once used the lake as a campground stop. Today the 34-acre lake is ringed by private homes, the old Star Lake School building still stands nearby, and Star Lake Elementary sits a few blocks from the shore. On December 6, 2025, light rail opened at Star Lake Station on South 272nd Street, which has put a lot more attention on these streets.

The housing mix is what makes gutter work here different. Census estimates show only about a third of the homes in ZIP 98032 are detached houses; the rest are townhomes, condos and apartments, many of them in complexes like the ones along 30th Place South, where a single roofline can drain several front doors. Lakefront and hillside houses round it out, often under Douglas fir, western red cedar and bigleaf maple. King County puts the lake’s watershed at 376 acres, so what comes off these roofs and driveways ends up in the lake. We clean by hand, keep downspouts flowing to proper outlets and use underground drainage where splash blocks are not enough.

The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Tacoma is owned by Jamie and Zeke Edwards, a husband-and-wife team raised in the South Sound. Around Star Lake our crew forms seamless gutters in the driveway, cleans and flushes systems, repairs pulled hangers and soft fascia, and installs BroGuard stainless micro-mesh where the trees never let up. We cover the rest of Kent too, homeowners and HOA boards alike, with a free written estimate every time.

Why the Brothers

Why Star Lake Homeowners Call the Brothers

01Lake-friendly drainage

Every roof near the water drains toward Star Lake. We route downspouts to real outlets so runoff does not cut across lawns and carry grit downhill.

02Townhome experience

Long shared rooflines and HOA schedules are routine for us. One written estimate covers the whole building and spells out each section.

03Built for evergreens

BroGuard micro-mesh handles fir needles and cedar sprays that slip through cheaper screens, so downspouts stay open through winter.

04Local owners on call

Owners Jamie and Zeke Edwards, a married couple, are the people you reach when you call. Call (253) 777-1572 for a free written estimate at your Star Lake home.

Year-round

Your Star Lake gutter calendar

What our crew does around Star Lake through the year, from leaf drop to the dry weeks of summer.

  1. Fall · Sep to NovLeaf and needle clean-out

Maples let go in October and the conifers shed, so we clean and flush before November brings more than 6 inches of rain.

  2. Winter · Dec to FebStorm fixes

Atmospheric rivers test seams and outlets. Between storms we repair overflow, loose downspouts and hangers pulled by wet debris.

  3. Spring · Mar to MaySecond cleaning

Cones, catkins and roof grit wash into the trough over winter. A spring visit clears them and is a good time to add guards.

  4. Summer · Jun to AugInstall window

July and August average under an inch of rain in Kent, the best time for new seamless runs, fascia and drain lines.

“At the start, Zeke was willing to work with my schedule, and they were prompt and on time. They worked with me, giving me options on the locations and directions of the downspouts, explaining the pros and cons of each option. Their pricing was very competitive… I highly recommend their services, even if it is not the lowest price. You won’t regret it.”

Star Lake Gutter Questions, Answered

Our Star Lake townhome HOA needs new gutters. Can you quote the whole building?

Yes. We measure every run on the building, note which units drain to which downspouts and give the board one written estimate broken out by section. Seamless runs are formed on-site, so long rooflines go up without joints every few feet. We can also set the building up on a maintenance schedule so cleanings happen the same time each year.

Where should downspouts drain on a lot that slopes toward Star Lake?

Into an outlet that can take it, not straight across the lawn. Water running downhill picks up grit and fertilizer and carries it toward the lake and the neighbors below. We use extensions, splash blocks or underground drain lines depending on the lot, and walk the property with you before writing the estimate.

How often should gutters be cleaned around Star Lake?

Twice a year works for most Star Lake homes, in late fall after the maples drop and again in spring. Houses right under big firs or cedars may need a third visit, or BroGuard micro-mesh to cut the clogging down. If water spills over the front of the gutter in a normal rain, it is time for a cleaning.

Is BroGuard worth it under fir and cedar trees?

Usually, yes. Fir needles and cedar sprays slip through coarse screens and pack into downspouts. BroGuard is a fine stainless mesh that keeps them on the surface, where they dry and blow off, while rain passes through. It does not mean never looking at your gutters again, but it cuts down cleanings and winter overflow.

Do you work in the rest of Kent too?

Yes. Our crew covers Star Lake, the area around Lake Fenwick Park and the rest of Kent, along with towns across the South Sound. Call (253) 777-1572 or book online, and we will set up a free written estimate for your house or your HOA.
